Princess of Thailand Visits Jülich
Jülich, 4. Juli 2018 - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited Forschungszentrum Jülich (Jülich Research Center) on 28 June 2018. Her Royal Highness was briefed about the background of Forschungszentrum Jülich and its main research areas as well as its cooperation with Thailand. During the visit, Her Royal Highness witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding, first, between Forschungszentrum Jülich and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) on the exchange of students and scientists, and between Forschungszentrum Jülich and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand on development of a joint lab.
This joint lab in the Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand will serve as a hub for common projects in the areas of sustainable bioeconomy and plant phenotyping. Since 2017, Jülich scientists from IBG-2 Plant Sciences have been collaborating with NSTDA, Thailand’s Department of Agriculture, and KMUTT in a BMBF-funded CASSAVASTORe project to increase productivity of cassava in Thailand. Furthermore, Jülich researchers and Thai scientists from NSTDA have been developing SAPPHIRE project for the use of smartphone applications for digital agriculture. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn also visited the artificial sun experiment at Institute of Solar Research and also Jülich Supercomputing Center.
